What it's Like with Asperger's
As someone with Asperger's, I have always found it hard to understand social cues, make eye contact, or engage in small talk, which leads to difficulties in forming and maintaining a relationship with anyone.
At certain points in my life, I have taken things way too seriously and have struggled with abstract concepts, jokes, or sarcasm, which has always made it difficult for me to have a conversation with people.
I have always had a strong preference for a specific routine in my life, which of course makes me predictable and unexpected changes can be distressing and hard to manage.
The combination of social difficulties, sensory issues, and other challenges that I have faced in my life have lead to heightened anxiety or stress.
I have always had a hard time recognizing and responding to the emotions of others and have had moments where I couldn't manage my own emotions.
Despite these challenges that I have faced in my life, one thing that I have realized about having Asperger's is that I have unique strengths, such as strong attention to detail, deep knowledge about specific areas of interest, and a high level of focus and dedication to tasks that I am passionate about. And for me, movies are where my knowledge and passion lies. It has been that way for as long as I can remember and it's a passion that I want to hold onto.
